Then Vice-President Dick Cheney looks at the National Guard’s NASCAR racing car. Turns out, the Guard spent more than $56 million in 2012 on recruitment ads with NASCAR, which netted exactly zero recruits. On the other hand, all that government advertising money helps shape corporate and media messaging.

Author’s note: Sometimes a pitcher throws a pitch he would like to have back, and that is the case with today’s installment of The New Bossism, kicking off Chapter 4: The State-Run Media. The essential point of the chapter is correct—the legacy media is state-run primarily because the government controls much of the pursestrings by doling out billions and billions of dollars in subsidies to media corporations. What’s more, the swell of spending during the pandemic to promote the government’s Covid policies and pro-vaccination messages underscores that very point. However, in 2015 I short-shrifted the government’s regulatory apparatus and how bureaucrats use it to threaten media companies into submission, just as Democrats have done with Big Tech over censorship. I also failed to adequately explore just how mega international media corporations fit into the globalist structure and how globalist corporations funnel billions of their own advertising dollars into media companies to shill for the left, as well as the subversive message running through scripted television, movie, and television, all pumped into circulation by woke corporations such as Disney. All those will be addressed in the new book.
