Admiral Thomas Moorer (far left), then chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and colleagues meet in 1973 with then secretary of defense Melvin Laird. Unknown to Laird, Moorer had set up a spy ring in the White House to spy on the administration, at one point even rifling through Henry Kissinger’s brief case.

Author’s note: Today’s installment of the New Bossism focuses on the military-industrial complex and Big Green. In the first part of the installment, one paragraph mentions the military-industrial complex’s growing dissatisfaction with Richard Nixon during his presidency. It was not just the military but the CIA and the entire deep state. In fact, they were about as disgusted with Nixon as they had been with President Kennedy for what they considered an insufficiently warmongering foreign policy, not to mention that Nixon believed the CIA killed Kennedy. There’s a whole lot more to that story, as we are all learning about. Suffice it to say here that the two presidents removed from office since 1960, one by assassination and one by compelled resignation, were the two presidents most loathed by the deep state and its bureaucratic board of directors, at least until Donald Trump came along. More about that coincidence in later pieces.
